The Shiller P/E ratio is a variation of the "normal" P/E ratio (price-earnings ratio) developed by Nobel Prize winner Robert Shiller. The Yale economist does not use the current profits of the companies for his Shiller P/E ratio, but the average earnings of the past ten years. In contrast to the P/E ratio, the Shiller P/E ratio is a smoothed and inflation-adjusted version of the P/E ratio. This ratio is often used by long-term investors to analyse shares. Here, too, the following applies: the lower the Shiller P/E ratio, the more advantageous it is.
