Die OHB Digital Connect GmbH, ein Tochterunternehmen des Raumfahrt- und Technologiekonzerns OHB SE, wurde vom Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) in Koblenz mit der Regenerierung der UHF-DAMA-Kontrollstation in Kastellaun beauftragt. Die Abkürzung UHF steht für „Ultra High Frequency“ und bezeichnet elektromagnetische Wellen im Frequenzband von circa 300 Megahertz bis 3 Gigahertz. Hinter DAMA verbirgt sich der englische Begriff „Demand Assigned Multiple Access”. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Technologie zur vorrübergehenden bedarfsgerechten Zuweisung von Kommunikationskanälen an verschiedene Nutzer. Die UHF-Kontrollstation Kastellaun ist Bestandteil von SATCOMBw, dem satellitengestützten Kommunikationssystem der Bundeswehr und eine zentrale Ressource in der UHF-Truppenkommunikation.
Im Rahmen des an OHB vergebenen Auftrags wird die bestehende Kontrollstation durch einen Neubau ersetzt, der wesentlich leistungsfähiger sein wird. „Wir freuen uns, dass wir nach der Realisierung der UHF-Kontrollstation in Gerolstein nun die Gelegenheit haben, unsere SatCom-Kompetenz beim Aufbau in Kastellaun erneut einzubringen“, sagt Wilfried Wetjen, Abteilungsleiter für Kommunikationssysteme bei OHB DC. Die UHF-DAMA-Kontrollstation stellt die Verfügbarkeit der Kommunikation über gesicherte, satellitengestützte Funksysteme bereit. Der vorliegende Auftrag umfasst die schlüsselfertige Errichtung der Bodenstation für die Satellitenkommunikation und die Anbindung der Kontrollstation an die Netze der Bundeswehr.
